Announcing the ARISE Consortium
Today we are opening applications for the 2026–2027 ARISE Consortium, a one-year network of physicians who will contribute clinical expertise to ARISE research on advanced AI systems in healthcare.
Many of the hardest questions in medical AI require clinical judgment. Is a recommendation appropriate? What important information was missed? Would an error harm a patient? How should performance be measured when there is no single correct answer?
ARISE has historically recruited physicians separately for individual studies. The Consortium creates a standing group of clinicians across specialties who can contribute to this work over the coming year.
ARISE researchers have led studies published in Nature Medicine, Science, and JAMA, including randomized evaluations of physician–AI collaboration, clinical AI safety, and frontier AI systems. We also work directly with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and other AI developers to evaluate emerging systems in clinically relevant settings.
What Consortium members will do
Consortium members may be invited to work on ARISE studies relevant to their specialty. This can include evaluating frontier AI systems, reviewing model outputs and clinical cases, participating in prospective studies or expert panels, helping to develop new approaches to clinical AI evaluation. and discussing early research findings with ARISE investigators.
Members who make substantial contributions to individual projects may qualify for co-authorship on resulting publications, consistent with standard authorship criteria.
We will also invite Consortium members to selected research briefings and scientific discussions throughout the year. Members will be listed on the ARISE website for the duration of their appointment.
Who should apply
We welcome applications from attending physicians, fellows, and residents across specialties.
We are primarily looking for strong clinicians with good judgment. Prior research, AI, or machine-learning experience is not required.
Membership is voluntary. Being a Consortium member does not require participation in every study; members can choose whether to take part when opportunities arise.
