This policy explains how ARISE Network ("ARISE", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects personal data when you visit arise-ai.org (the "site"), and how we use cookies and similar technologies. It applies to visitors, people who contact us, and people who register interest in our events and the HAILS online course.
ARISE is an interdisciplinary research network evaluating the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights below, contact us at contact@arise-ai.org.
We collect personal data in two ways:
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We group ours into three categories. Strictly necessary cookies are always active; analytics and marketing cookies are only set once you accept them in our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time (see section 9).
| Category | Purpose | Providers |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Remember your cookie choice and keep the site secure and functional. Cannot be switched off. | ARISE (first-party) |
| Analytics | Understand how the site is used, in aggregate, so we can improve it. | Google Analytics 4 |
| Marketing / retargeting | Let us show you relevant ARISE updates — including the HAILS online course — on other websites and social platforms, and measure those campaigns. | Google Ads, Meta (Facebook/Instagram), LinkedIn |
We use Google Consent Mode, so Google's tags stay in a restricted, cookieless state until you accept. Meta and LinkedIn tags are not loaded at all until you accept marketing cookies.
Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR we rely on the following legal bases:
If you accept marketing cookies, Google Ads, Meta, and LinkedIn may place cookies or identifiers that let us build audiences of people who have visited the site (for example, people who viewed the HAILS online course page) and show them our ads elsewhere. We do not share your name or email with these platforms for this purpose. You can opt out directly:
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf — including our analytics and advertising providers (Google, Meta, LinkedIn), our hosting provider, and the tools we use to run our mailing list and forms. Each acts under contract and only on our instructions. We may also disclose data where required by law.
Some of our providers are based outside the UK/EEA, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK/EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an applicable adequacy decision.
We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out above, or as required by law. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to each provider's settings and our configured retention periods; enquiry and mailing-list data are kept until you ask us to delete them or unsubscribe.
Under the UK/EU GDPR you have the right to:
To change your cookie choices, use the "Reject non-essential" or "Accept all" options in our cookie banner, or clear this site's cookies in your browser to be asked again. To exercise any other right, email contact@arise-ai.org. You also have the right to complain to your data protection regulator — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
The site is intended for a professional and academic audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, ask for your consent again.
